Review of the Type O Negative show in Cedar Rapids

By: Sarah Farris

Well, at least one of the Ozzy tour shows came through as planned. I managed to see Type O with Ozzy this Sunday in Cedar Rapids, IA. Considering all of the cancellations so far, I was pretty much convinced that to top off an already shitty week, this show would be cancelled too. Ozzy is notorious for cancelling in the Midwest, anyway. But for once I was pleasantly surprised.

The sound quality was pretty bad for Type O's set. This is strange, since Sepultura and Ozzy sounded just fine. Pete might as well have not been there, since the vocals and bass were nearly inaudible. They did play a new song, which as far as I could tell was called "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend," or maybe "My Best Friend's Girlfriend." I think it was the former since Pete mentioned something about "two women" before the song started. ARRRGGHH...how frustrating to not be able to hear anything. Anyways, the song was pretty upbeat, similar to the first part of "Too Late:Frozen" or "Blood and Fire."
The entire set list was like this:
Blood and Fire
Are You Afraid?/Gravity
Too Late: Frozen
Black No. 1
My Girlfriend's Girlfriend
Christian Woman

That's about it. BTW, for those of you who aren't too excited about Ozzy these days, I would still urge you to go. The man is smart enough to know what his strongest material is, and doesn't bore you with all of the lamer recent stuff. As a result, almost the entire set was Randy Rhoades-era and Black Sabbath tunes. So that wasn't as bad as it could have been.
