Review of the Type O Negative show in Lubbock

By: Robyn

Type O played for about 45 minutes. The songs they did (in no particular order) were Christian Woman (for which Peter announced he got kicked out of school), Black No. 1 (dedicated to "all the women with the blond hair, all the women with the red hair, and particularly, all the women with the BLACK hair."), Too Late Frozen, Can't Lose You and one song from the new album "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" ("This is a song about a boy and a girl and a girl"). Peter mentioned the new album is due out August 13th -- "If our record company doesn't screw things up.. which they probably will." I was relieved they did NOT perform "Bloody Kisses: A Death in the Family" .. not because I don't like the song but because it has personal significance for me and hits a bit too close to home at the present time. I was disappointed they did not do "Suspended in Dusk" because it's my favorite song.. but.. other than that... it was a good set.. although I wish it was longer!! In fact, they could have done away with the other opening act and just made it a double bill with Type O and Ozzy and I would have gladly paid the $25 ticket price.

For those wanting to know how the band or (more to the point) how Peter looked.... he came out wearing a light grey (not sure of the exact color but it was definitely NOT green! WHAT!!!???) tank top *melt* with his hair tied back. Fortunately, he untied it about 2/3rds of the way thru their set. *sigh* He looked F-I-N-E (as I mentioned previously) and the only thing said in regards to health was his statement that "my lithium dose is about to run out and you wouldn't want to see a performance if THAT happened!" (knowing a couple bi-polar M/D's I can understand why he would say that!). Even from where I was sitting -- which was high up and not that close to the stage.. Peter's height is imposing!

As far as merchandise goes... they had a couple t-shirts, a bandana (and some other assorted small stuff I didn't pay close attention to). I got a t-shirt and bandana for $35... they were reasonable (compared to Ozzy's merchandise) but not cheap. The t-shirt had "Express Yourself -- Just Say Yes" (not a reference to drugs for those who may not know) on the back and "Type O Negative Casket Crew" on the front... on each sleeve is "Thir13teen". And, of course, in the standard GREEN color range.

I think that pretty well covers it... let me send this before I lose my second attempt. Anyone having specific questions feel free to email me and I'll do my best to answer them. Hopefully, this was not more information than you wanted.
