Review of the Type O Negative show in Port Chester NY

By: Phil Saulnier

I got there late because my dumbass friend sold out tickets, so I missed most of Drain, but what i saw rocked. I'd seen them before in Syracuse. These women can headbang with the best of em. Drummer is very cute.

I was looking forward to Stuck Mojo, since I heard they were a must-see live act. They did mostly songs off of pigwalk, like 'twisted', and 'mentally melting down' but also 'snapping necks'. Their set was short, but they have a cool sound. Except for being stupid and saying, "this one's for all you who like to smoke herb." You could compare them to Rage, but IMHO they're ten times better. Hey, those guys took the Grammy away from Pantera, dammit.

Type O came out to Glass Walls of Limbo as usual, but no trees on stage this time. Since this was the first show of the new tour, I noticed a few changes. They played Unsuccessfully Coping, and peter announced "not to make any excuses, but... that was the first time we played that song in three years." Heavy as hell. Right before that, they played the intro to 'A death in the family', which peter proceeded by saying "this is a song i wrote after the death of my parakeet ... i was so heart-borken, i couldn't shit for two weeks."

There was also: Gravity, Love You to Death, Cinammon Girl, Light My Fire, C.Woman, (peter didn't say anything offensive about it this time), Too Late (w/ snow machine), My Girlfriend's Girlfriend, Wolf Moon, and Black No. 1. probably forgetting a couple.

At one point, Peter took his towel, wiped his butt with it and then tried to shove it in Kenny's face. Then he threw his wine into the crowd and someone almost dropped it. At the end, Peter ripped the strings off his bass and started to floss his teeth with the D. Oh, he promised to write us absence notes after the show, since we had work and/or school the next day.

The only bad thing about the show was the quietness of the keyboards. And not enough goth chicks, dammit. Besides the one I was with. Other than that, it was worth the five hour drive to see here and Type O. Can't wait till the Ozzfest this summer.

Return to the '97 US Tour, part 2.
