Review of the Type O Negative show in Spokane, WA

By: jeff rhodes

1:30 pm - Went downtown to see if the bands had arrived yet,no band, just techs setting up equipment....

9:00 pm - I skipped DRAIN,talked to a girl outside smoking, she said they were real slow and heavyish,,kinda AIC like.

SISTER MACHINE GUN - Was a wall of noise with an occasional 2 chord groove, vocals were indistinct, good energy, but not much variation.First half of their set he,(the singer),wore dark sunglasses, when they came off he had to open his shirt and show off his "BURN" stomach tattoo,(and they didn't even play the song....)

TYPE O NEGATIVE - Opened with some noisy industrial type intro, and a TON of smoke....they played for about 90 minutes,a good mix of new and old,a very good show, some songs seemed a lot faster live, and Black No. 1 had a new intro. Pete quote of the night:(before Bachus),"If it weren't for self pity,I wouldn't have any pity at all"

After the concert - I got to shake Pete's hand while looking up,(he's actually 2 inches taller than me),and give him a video of an old (11-93) Type O show.I said,"I brought you a tape,it's some lame band you might recognize",he looked at it,read the label, and kind of laughed and said,"f**kin' dickheads, thanks".
