Review of the Type O Negative show in Jackson MS

By: Miquiztli Crux Alexander

W0W!!!!!

This show phukin ROCKED! Here's the Line-up as best as I can remember it (and read it off of my arm :)

Jackhammerape LYTD Cinnamon Girl In Praise of Bacchus Kill all the White users Light My Fire (Doors Cover) Are you Afraid? Gravity (pete takes down his hair) Christian Woman Wolf Moon Too Late: Frozen (no snow) (fight) (pete did all vocals) MGG Black #1

Now here's my best at a review (all you pro's plz be kind :)

It starts really dark, and then the Vinnland music/background sounds come on... EVERYONE SCREAMS...

John walks across the stage grinning, trying not to notice everyone, and sits at his drumset WAY off in the corner (as opposed to Drain and Stuck Mojo, who's where in the middle of the stage).

Then Kenny comes on and picks up his guitar and just stares at everyone... he flirts with some cute girls up front (who embarrased the hell out of the rest of us groupies and fans by not even knowing his name) while he makes sure his shit is tuned right.

Then Josh comes on (who I learned later is sick as shit), and starts fucking with the crowd by pretending to start playing then grinning over at us when he stops. heheh....

Then, as the music starts rocking the whole place, Pete walks up. Before I go any farther, you need to know about the place. Its called The Dock, and for a reason: it is out on a pier right over the water. So when I meant rocking the place, it was MOVING. It was SO intense. The place is SMALL, too. Probably around 300 users is the capacity. But there weren't 50 users there total at the stage, so I was right in front of Peter (not that I wouldn't have been, anyway :).

Pete finished off a bottle of what we all have agreed on as water in a Smirnoff Vodka bottle. Mainly because it was refilled during the show...:/ talk about a let down, hahah...and we all thought he was putting away a 5th of vodka, oh well.

He is wearing black jeans, an army green muscle shirt, an army green headband and his hair pulled back in a ponytail. God, this man sweats profusely! He was slinging his sweat everywhere...dripping all over the stage and everything. He starts out with my favorite song off of SDH: Jackhammerape, and DAMN did they have fun with it! It rocked all except that they didn't do any of that cool monk chanting and deep vocals that aren't printed on the lyrics.

They go through the songs, the vocals needing to be turned up very badly (I felt sorry for the users who didn't know the lyrics by heart, cause you weren't gonna make them out). Josh's synth and keyboard also needed to be turned up Immensely. It was painly obvious on LYTD and MGG, where he plays a HUGE role. It was almost non-existant.

Pete, for some reason, was singing some of his low vocals in a higher/regular-tone pitch. I was upset about this, seeing that's what I love so much about Pete's vocals.

When Christian Woman started he took his hair down to the screaming pleasure of the ladies in the crowd (one of which was waaay too close to me for all that screaming, heheh). All the lyrics were standard-cd release stuff...no alternate lyrics for Jackson. Maybe tonight in Birmingham, AL :)

When Frozen came on, my desparate search for the snow machines melted (sorry for the pun:). They weren't gonna use 'em. Our excitement did, however, turn to an out-of-control mosh pit that suddenly started up. Ended up in a fight between 4 security guards and 2 guys :) Cute and appropriately placed lyrics added a nice humor to the whole thing as Pete screamed, "TOO LATE FOR APOLOGIES, UH!"...right as the guys were kicked the hell out.

Another strange (I suppose, given our recent thread about the 2L8:frozen lyrics) thing was that Pete did ALL the vocals to Frozen. Actually, Kenny, Josh and John didn't sing much at all. I hate to include John in this category, because everytime I saw him, he was singing...he just didn't have a mic :)

After the show, I hung around for about an hour and met the guys. THEY WERE SO COOL! We stood around and talked, fucked off...had a really awesome time with them. There were only about 15 users total who stayed around for them, so we just had a blast. Poor Josh, as I then found out, was sick as hell. I wanted to get my pic w/ him and all his hair, but he said the wind and cold was too much. *shrug* oh, well...maybe Birmingham :)

Pete, well, shit, what do I say? He was so nice...(did I just call him that?) He talked with everyone, and stayed out of the bus the longest of any of them. Kenny was out almost the whole time too. He did anything users wanted him to. Signed stuff, took pics, talked....

I was SO wired coming home...I've GOT to see them tonight in Birmingham, AL! Someone tell me if you're gonna be there, we'll meet up :)

"Hope this wasn't too disappointing..."
